About the Role

Nongmin Consultancy Services is looking for a talented Asian Dress Designer & Specialist who can blend traditional Asian craftsmanship with modern design trends. The role involves designing and tailoring custom garments such as Sarees, Shirts, Panjabis, salwar-kameez, kurta-pajama, Party-wear, Lungi, Gamcha, Kids’ Frocks, Skirts, and Three-piece suits. We are looking for someone with a strong academic background in fashion design (preferably from BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology or a similar reputable institution).

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct trend research, create initial sketches, and develop mood boards and tech packs detailing fabric types, measurements, and construction methods.
  • Choose materials based on comfort, sustainability, and aesthetics, and source fabrics from suppliers, with an emphasis on eco-friendly options.
  • Draft patterns using CAD software and scale them to different sizes to ensure proper fit across various body types.
  • Create prototypes, test them for fit and comfort, and make revisions based on feedback.
  • Sew garments using industrial machines, applying various seam techniques for durability and aesthetics.
  • Add custom embellishments like embroidery, buttons, zippers, and other details to enhance the design.
  • Conduct thorough checks for defects, stitching accuracy, sizing, and color consistency, and perform wear and durability tests.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/Diploma in Fashion Design (preferably from BGMEA University) with 3–5 years of professional experience in Asian dress design and tailoring.
  • Strong skills in fabric selection, embroidery (Zardozi, Kantha, Appliqué, Jamdani), and finishing techniques.
  • Proven ability to design men’s, women’s, and kids’ traditional wear, with a strong portfolio.
  • Proficient in pattern drafting, garment grading, fittings, and digital design tools such as CAD, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, and CLO3D.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial sewing and embroidery machines.
  • Strong communication skills for client consultations and the ability to adapt designs for international markets while maintaining authenticity.
  • Knowledge of sustainable fabrics, eco-friendly practices, and a creative approach to time management and attention to detail.

Tools & Technical Skills

  • Design Software: CAD, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, CLO3D (or equivalent).
  • Pattern-Making Tools: Drafting software, dress forms, and manual grading tools.
  • Tailoring Equipment: Industrial sewing, serger, and embroidery machines.
  • Fabric Expertise: Dyeing, printing, Zardozi, Kantha, Jamdani weaving.
  • Digital Skills: Virtual fittings, online client consultation, digital catalogs.
  • Quality Control: Fabric testing, measurement accuracy, bulk order checks.
